Not pulling things from inventory until they’re SOLD and paid for!

Allowing customers to still
Purchase items if they’re just sitting in carts. I have tons of customers that just cart tons of things and then decide later what they want. Would be great if still showed in stock and pulled from their cart if someone else was willing to pay for it right then! I feel like I miss tons of sales because items show sold out and then customers are missing them when they come back in stock!

Hey everyone! We've just launched a new feature called, "First Paid, First Served"! This makes it so the first person to pay is the first person to get the item - items are not pulled from inventory until purchased!
Detailed Guide on The Feature & How To Use It:

You can toggle this on in your shop settings. https://commentsold.com/admin/setup

This had a lot more complications and edge cases, but it's now in the final stages of QA. Hoping to launch it into the first round of beta within a couple weeks
You will be able to enable/disable this feature at any time, so you can enable it for a live, then disable it afterwards (so it goes back to your 2 hour cart timer or whatever you have set)
This also lays the way to allow us to do it per customer and per product - so you may want a customer (like a bad one) to be on first-pay, first-serve but let VIP customers hold items in their cart. You may also want particular products to be first-paid, first-serve!
Andrew Thompson
Brandon Kruse: YES! Thank you! LOVING everything I just read!! I was kinda worried about VIP’s being upset things were pulled from their carts! I am SO EXCITED! Thank you guys so much!

Brandon Kruse: I love everything about this idea! There's always going to be some what ifs, but I think this is definitely a feature that I could really use... like ASAP lol I saw where one of the boutiques was able to do a sale in App and stated first come, first serve - no items reserved! Which is great because when you're running a sale for one day you have some customers who just hoard the items in their cart this will allow everyone an equal chance to shop and still allows for a sense of urgency to complete their purchase rather than just being the first to add all to cart and decide at a later time. You all are awesome! So many wonderful features already and always adding new features! I vote YES PLEASE! Would love to try it out today! haha

make this an option to turn on or off. some us may not use this feature right now. i give my customers 24hrs to pay so its a 24hr hold on the item.
Melissa Warner
Gwen Turner: yes ma'am it will definitely have a toggle for on or off

This is in QA testing now! Should be on-time for the February release
There were a LOT of edge cases here, so we will be sure to spell it all out so you can make the best decision for your business
Andrew Thompson
Brandon Kruse: what kinda edge cases? Excited to beta this!
Brandon Kruse
Andrew Thompson: I'll wait for it to be out of QA for the full list, but one of the big ones is waitlist which we talked about before.
We wanted to make sure we built the feature so you could toggle it on and off at any time. We even have code in place to where you could do it per-product
We wanted the max amount of flexibility for the shop. Super excited for this!

i would prefer things only waitlist if they are truly sold out
and if say we restock waitlist items they just go in everyone’s cart on waitlist until someone pays out the quantities then poof they disappear
Melissa Warner
I'm pretty sure this is being worked on. Not 100% on eta but in the works!!

Melissa Warner: Yep!

Melissa Warner: eta feb 2020 it's on the post :D

Merged in a post:
Show item available until it’s paid for. Allow multiple people to add to cart, until it’s actually paid.
Melissa Alsup
Make it so multiple customers can add it to their cart, but it goes to the first person who pays. Once the item is paid for, it will mark it out of stock in other people’s carts, and moves it to their waitlist.
Would make it so people could not hold inventory.
Mandy Holker
Melissa Alsup - tagging you on this one to follow!

We have made good progress on this
For the first version, I will go over the edge cases when we are ready to beta it. I think we have a good solution for the "waitlist" too!
Andrew Thompson
Brandon Kruse: PM me please! So excited to hear your progress/ideas.

We looked at this in our dev standup this morning in more detail
It looks possible but there are some tricky edge cases that I'd like people's thoughts on
The first is what about significantly lowering the cart timer? Something like 5 minutes is more like ticketmaster!
The second would be if you were indeed sold out and had 100 people on the waitlist. Then you added 20 back in stock, would you email all 100 people every time ever 1 or 2 came back in stock?
Thoughts?
Mara Whitener
Brandon Kruse: at least in our case customer do still like some time to be able to shop the dashboard after we are live and/or have more time to pay and I could see cutting the cart time to 5 minutes could be detrimental depending on how some people run their live shows. Perhaps have a pay cutoff time before the cart dumps but also have an adjustable item guarantee time? Allow each boutique to continue to set cart expiration times but also allow us to set an item guarantee time. Like items are only guaranteed for you for 1 hour or 2 hours. Letting others still buy them?
Brandon Kruse
Mara Whitener: interesting, I thought that a variable timer PER
CHANNEL could help with that. My fear with per-item is that it could be too cumbersome for the admin to manage
For example if you add the item to cart via a comment, you should have more time to pay (to navigate to the site, and pay)
If you add an item from the dashboard, or from your app, you should have less time since it takes you to the cart IMMEDIATELY
The same for waitlist but in reverse - if you get an item that comes off the waitlist, you should have more time to pay for it since you were not necessarily in the "buying" zone
Mara Whitener
Brandon Kruse: I gotcha! Makes sense! I can see it working both ways. My only pint with that is for example currently I have a 12 hour cart time since most of our lives are in the evening and it let’s folks pay in the morning. But...then if they are waitlisted and don’t get notified until the next day it starts the 12 hour clock over again for that person on that item. My thought being if the cart expiration was an option as a static time (but guarantee time per item let waitlists open up sooner on some items). Make any sense? Kind of a combo item expiration/waitlist cutoff time toggle.
Andrew Thompson
Brandon Kruse: I don’t see any reason to mess with the timer for us per say as it will (if it works how we want it to) just be kinda whoever wants can claim stuff but whoever pays first gets it. I could care less about waitlist items bc that doesn’t apply to us often, like if I add 20 back and 100 on waitlist it could just notify that 20 more came available and the first 20 to pay get it.0
Brandon Kruse
Andrew Thompson: Got it, yep, that makes sense

Brandon Kruse is it possible to do a wishlist/cart combo? So for instance, customer comments SOLD 123 it goes into their cart like normal BUT only holds it for 2 hours. After that 2 hours, it moves to their wishlist and goes back into inventory for anyone else to claim. If the customer then goes back later to grab their cart, they would see only the wishlist items not yet sold out, and could then add back into cart for immediate checkout. My customers have been asking for a wishlist option. I think something like this might be the best of both worlds. Thoughts?

Jill Valero: I think it would be better if items could stay protected in peoples carts for set number of hours we could set, say 2,4,8,12,24 hrs, after that if some one wants to buy and pay immediately, they get the item and the previous holder gets that item put on their wish list and get notified when back in stock to buy, like a message via email, text or facebook. saying hey there, item xxx is back in stock, have a checkout now option to buy it then and there or put into cart, again subject to timer option
J
Jill Valero
William Brosen: yep, you're basically saying exactly what I said LOL
